Big News!

I am finally back in blog land! Hurrah! We’ve had a rather hectic couple of months but with good reason as we have big news!
There’s going to be a CraftJar baby!! Yes, that’s right, I’m pregnant!

I’ve really missed scrapping and crafting and then blogging all about it but hopefully I will be able to carry on with all that now I’m beginning to feel a little bit more human. I’ve suffered quite badly with sickness and although I only work until 2pm, that seems to totally exhaust me and so I’ve basically been working and sleeping for the past few months. However, I have started the first pregnancy layout and as soon as I’ve come up with a title, I will get it photographed and on here. I’ve also got to order an album or two so I can document this very exciting time in my life!

Anyway, to keep you going as I don’t have any crafty pics to show you, here is a picture from our 12 weeks scan that we had last week:

It was being a very wriggly baby and so it took a while for the sonographer to take all her measurements but it was so lovely to see them so clearly!

And so the big clear out has begun. Our study/craft room has got to be turned into a nursery between now and July and so we started this weekend by beginning to put things into boxes for the loft. I will just have to re-organise and condense my crafting bits so that they fit into the top or bottom of my wardrobe! Either that or find a bigger house….hehe.

Right, that’s all for today, I will try and get a layout up as soon as poss!

Final Wedding

Hey everyone!

I know what you’re thinking, ‘Two posts in a week?!’, but yes, I told you I’d be back!

Today I want to share with you a card that I made for our friends that got married a few weeks ago. We think it’s probably going to be the last wedding we shall go to in quite some time as there aren’t any up-coming weddings that we know about at the mo!
So here’s the card:

This card is one I used having been inspired by Britta Swiderski. She made this fantastic card and so I pretty much just copied it, just changing the colours and dimensions.

I don’t own the stamp set she used to create the sentiment and so I stamped my own on a banner shaped bit of card and adhered it to the woven background.

For some reason I find wedding cards difficult to make and so it was really helpful to have something to go by!

See you soon,

Graduation and a Wintery Card

Hey everyone!

I’ve just got back from graduating for the second time! This time it was for my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) and it was held in Winchester Cathedral, which was lovely and grand and made for a special ceremony. Here’s a quick pic:

You never know, I might even get around to scrapbooking the pics one of these days!!

The main thing I want to share with you today though is this card:

I made this using the ‘Frosty Friends’ stamp set from Lawn Fawn and I have to say, I love it!
I layered some pink polka dot paper from October Afternoon onto a cream, square cardblank and then set about creating the main focus for the card.

I stamped the mittens onto some OA paper and then cut them out. Once I had four that I was happy with, I drew a curly line across the kraft cardstock and stamped on where I wanted my mittens to go. Then it was just a case of adhering the paper pieced mittens to the card and stamping the sentiment across the bottom.

I decided I wanted to stick the kraft cardstock to the card on some foam dimensionals to add some depth to the card so I quickly tied some pink twine across the card before hand just to add that final bit of detail.

I’m really chuffed with this card, the colours and details just seemed to come together really easily so I’m hoping to send it off to a friend!

In other news, I now have a job in a local school and so hence the break in blogging! I haven’t forgotten my little blog and I am going to keep writing, I was just finding it difficult to find time in the day light hours to get photos taken etc.

Anyways, see you again soon!

Oh I do Like to be By the Sea

Morning!

I am so overwhelmed by how many lovely comments I got for my Banner of Love card, I am so grateful for them all, thank you.

So today I want to share with you a layout that I’ve put together using one of our holiday pics from earlier in the year. It’s quite a minimal layout and for those of you that follow my blog, you will know that I got a sewing machine last Monday and so this does of course feature lots of sewing!
Here it is:

I started with a sheet of Kraft cardstock and then got out some acrylic paint and just randomly painted a couple of strips of paint. I didn’t want this to look perfect and I love the shabby, vintage look of it on this layout. Then I just started adding some elements to the page but kepy it quite minimal, all centred around the photo.
You can see the details and sewing here:

The patterned paper is from October Afternoon as are the journalling card and sticker and mini market stickers. The large lettering in the title is K&Co.
I finished by adding my journalling all around the page to frame it.

That’s it from me today, hope you all had a good weekend and I shall be back later this week with some other crafty bits and pieces.

Banner of Love

Hey Guys!

Sorry it’s Thursday, not Wednesday as I said, but I do have a card and I was going to blog it yesterday but it got dark before I had chance to photograph it and so I decided it would be better to wait until today.
And just before I show it to you, I just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely comments you’ve left me. I really do appreciate them all and I love reading them.

Right, so here is today’s card:

I love how this card turned out! The design is an ‘itty bitty’ stamp by Unity, which I’ve paper pieced to get the colour and pattern into the design.
But I also love it because I’ve sewed it! On Monday I happened to be going through my Christmas list and I noticed that the mini sewing machine from John Lewis that I wanted had been reduced to half price to clear! I thought this was too good a bargain to pass up and so I promptly rang up my local store who said they still had one left in stock. It was obviously meant to be so I reserved it and dragged my other half into town after work to go and collect it! So I’m rather chuffed and I can now sew on cards and layouts until my heart’s content!

So I stamped the design onto some kraft cardstock, inked around the edges and sewed it to the blue patterned paper. I then inked the edges of that and stitched the blue paper to the card blank. To help keep all the bits in place whilst I sew around I used a small bit of Glossy Accents just in the centre so that it secures it whilst still allowing the needle to sew through easily.
Once I had sewed all the bits in place I pulled up the edges slightly and roughed them up a bit to give it some movement and dimension.

Then I moved onto the paper piecing and it was just lots of pain staking stamping and cutting. But I loved it and the final effect is quite cute! In this photo you can see the dimension it gives. It’s only subtle but it makes all the difference.

I finished it all with some pearls because you can never go wrong with those!
I was going to start a layout but the photo I really want to scrap is still on my computer and the printer has decided it will not print photos, so that will have to wait for now. I’ve also got a wedding card to make so that has to take priority at the mo as the wedding is on Saturday!
See you soon,
Becky x
